What a Week!

What a wonderful week we've had in Year 1 this week.

We had such fun practising for and performing our assembly. The children performed the story of the 'Pied Piper of Hamelin'.  I must say I was super impressed and proud of each and every one of them.

Phonics

In phonics this week the children have been learning the sound 'i'.  Apart from writing the sound 'i' and colouring in pictures of objects beginning with the sound 'i', the children made Indian headdresses and igloos.

Since the beginning of the year, the children have learned several sounds and are now beginning to put them together to form words.
They are very proud of themselves and rightly so.

Maths

In Maths this week the children were focussing on ordering numbers 1 to 20. To reinforce this the children had to choose a  number and find the number immediately before and after the chosen number.

In the picture above each child had a number, they were then given 20 seconds to put themselves in order.  This was a popular activity.

UOI

The focus in UOI this week was our sense of hearing.  The children played a game where they had to identify objects from the sounds they made.  Some of the objects used in the game were a range of musical instruments, such as a rainmaker, tambourine and Indian bells.  The children also identified the sound of running water, paper being ripped and keys jangling.  Children then drew several objects that made sounds.
