Celebrating Our Achievements Conclusion of UOI This week the Year 1 students hosted an Assembly, to celebrate their achievements, which have been many this term indeed!. The children demonstrated what they had learned by teaching the other students how to make various Chinese New Year decorations.  They also made 'Empire Biscuits', for the rest of the students, as part of our celebration. Great job boys! Assembly To say I was proud of how the Year 1 students performed at the assembly is an understatement! They put on a stellar performance! Not only did they teach the other students how to make things such as, Chinese lanterns and a Chinese handprint dragon but they sang and danced wonderfully at the conclusion of the assembly. Well done Year 1, you were amazing! Maths As well as practising writing their numerals and number words, the children played matching games for both multiplication and addition.    ...

PSPE The PSPE theme this week was teamwork.  After a lengthy discussion the children were put into teams and given the challenge of making something as a team.  They had free choice as to what to make and what to make it from.  Luffy's team decided to make a robot.  They really demonstrated teamwork as they each made a different body party for the robot.  Excellent job! Literacy In Literacy this week as well as looking at non-fiction books relating to our UOI, we have also been practising writing simple words, as well as basic punctuation.    In the pictures below Moses and Thames had to write sentences to match the picture, ensuring they used capital letters and full stops. Euro writes words to match the pictures. Maths In maths we have been working on addition of one and two digit numbers.  We have also been matching cards to reinforce number recognition.  The children were also given 'maths challenge...

Maths To assess the children's knowledge of the topics covered in mathematics this term, the children were challenged to make a poster entitled 'What I know about numbers'.  I have to say they did an impressive job  and included such things as', odd and even numbers, addition sums and subtraction sums. Thames shows off his number poster Torch did a great job with his poster. Lunar demonstrates on the board the type of thing the children could put in their posters. Tone uses the chart to help him fill in the missing numbers. Literacy Apart from looking at non-fiction books this week, we have also been focusing on understanding what we are reading.  We read a non-fiction text about bats and then we answered questions on the subject.  We also read a non-fiction text on rats, as this is the 'Year of the rat'.  The children then made a poster and wrote some facts they had learned about rats. The boys fill out the answers to the que...

In maths we started learning about 3D shapes.  After discussing the properties of 3D shapes, we set about finding some around the school grounds.  Later in the week we started compiling a book about 3D shapes. Maths The children stop to draw some of the 3D shapes they found within the school environment. Trevi about to start work on his 3D shape book.          Literacy In Literacy this week, we have practised our handwriting as well as looking at spelling patterns, and rhyming words Luffy writes some spelling words on the board. Lunar adds to the spelling list with the 'ig' words. The boys match the cards to make phrases with rhyming words. After matching the cards, Petch writes the phrase in his book.
