From Udon Thani to Manhattan

UOI

This week saw the children delve even deeper into their Unit of Inquiry on homes.  The children were excited to see pictures of their own homes displayed on the wall.  However there was even more excitement when they worked together to build their own cardboard houses.
As a class we have paired up with a Year 1 class in New York.  The children from New York sent a video asking questions about homes in Thailand.  We are planning to record our answers and also ask about homes in New York.

A 'Before You Go,  What Do You Know', chart was introduced into the classroom this week to help the children reflect on what they had learned that day.

English

Linux illustrates a scene from the 'The Extraordinary Egg'.

The letters of the week, this week were 'e' and 'n'. The children had the opportunity to examine a real ostrich egg before listening to the story 'The Extraordinary Egg', which they later illustrated.
The sound 'n' was introduced by having selection of things beginning with 'n', in the 'Mystery Box'.
This not only served to introduce the sound but also gave the children the opportunity to frame questions in order to identify the mystery object.

Maths

This week the children focussed on doubling numbers.  They played the game 'Find My Match' to reinforce this concept.
