I'm Quite Unique

Assembly

I'm Quite Unique

On Thursday the Year 1 students had the opportunity to showcase their talents at the Year 1 Assembly.  The theme of the assembly was 'Identity'.  The children explained what Identity and Uniqueness meant to them.  They also shared their pictures illustrating what made them special.

UOI

In UOI the children continued their investigation into celebrations and festivals.  They had great fun decorating the classroom with the lanterns they had made for Chinese New Year.

As part of our unit the students are helping Miss Chen celebrate Chinese New Year by performing a Chinese dance.

Celebrations

We had our very own celebration in class this week, as we celebrated Ichi's birthday.

Happy Birthday Ichi.

Literacy

The children have been working on developing their vocabulary in connection with their UOI unit to include such words as 'celebration', 'festival', 'customs' and 'traditions' as well as developing their oral language by learning poems and songs for their  assembly. The children also continued working on reading and writing simple words.

Maths

In maths this week the children were introduced to basic multiplication, through the concept of 'pairs', for example, the children were asked how many shoes in 2 pairs of shoes. This was consolidated by drawing pairs of things and then counting how many individual items altogether.
