Assembly Fun

Assembly

On Thursday Year 1 hosted the assembly.  The theme of the assembly was 'Developing Independence'.  They began by showing pictures of themselves being independent and describing what they were doing, for example brushing their teeth, getting dressed, taking the dog for a walk etc.  They did a great job of speaking clearly and loudly.  They finished their assembly by reciting a poem called 'The Morning Rush'.

Maths

The children continued to explore number through a variety of activities this week.  Activities ranged from cutting and pasting numbers in order to making their own addition and subtraction sums with dominoes.

Literacy

This week the children have enjoyed listening to a variety of stories and discussing the characters.   They were also introduced to adjectives to make their characters more interesting.  One such activity required the children to cut and paste appropriate adjectives for characters such as 'The big bad wolf' and 'Little Red Riding Hood'.  We also focused on the sound 't' this week and drew objects beginning with 't' in a giant teapot.  To enhance our learning we also played some literacy games on the computer.

UOI

This week in UOI the children have been learning about their sense of smell and sight.  They had great fun trying to draw a picture with their eyes closed.  Apart from being fun it emphasised how important their sense of sight is.
