Birthday Celebrations
UOI
Our Unit of Inquiry this week provided us with the opportunity of exploring our sense of hearing. The children learned that sounds travel in waves and that there are three major parts of the ear.
The children then worked on posters to show the importance of our sense of hearing.

The fact that we celebrated one of the children's birthdays this week reinforced the concept that we are all unique. A concept which we have been focusing on in our UOI.
Happy Birthday Thun Thun.
Literacy
Reading is an extremely complicated process requiring many skills. One such skill is visual discrimination. In order to develop this skill, the children have been working on visual discrimination exercises. Such exercises require the children to choose the correct word for the picture e.g. 'bug' 'big'.

Maths
Once again the many of the activities in mathematics were 'hands-on'. This included, the children making their own addition sums using the number balance, as well as sorting out the order of numbers. We also continued to work on 2D shapes.
Assembly
Our assembly on Independence Building will take place on Thursday the 26th of September, Period 1. I would like to extend an invitation to all Year 1 parents.
