Holiday Time!

This Friday the children will stop for a well earned break.  In this first half of the term they have produced some amazing work.

UOI

This week we continued our work on our new Unit of Inquiry, looking at different homes and the different materials they are made from.  We also discussed why some materials are best suited to houses in certain locations.

The children enjoyed making their own 'paper bag'  houses.

Donations

It would be greatly appreciated if you could send in any cardboard boxes or other scrap material for the children to make model houses.

Maths activities this week included making numbers with unified cubes, making pictures with shapes and being introduced to the concept of 'sets' of things.  The children decided on their own criteria for the sets, e.g., 'things we can read', 'things to use in art and craft etc.

Thun Thun and Junior explain their criteria for the sets they have made.

Spy makes the number 7 using unifix cubes.

Jewoo makes a zero using unified cubes.

Literacy

The children have enjoyed listening to some traditional tales this week, such as 'Puss in Boots'.  After discussing the title and author of the book.  The students were then introduced to the concept of characters, settings and events.  The children then had the opportunity to draw the setting of Puss in Boots.
We were also lucky enough to meet Lunar's pet Iggy the Iguana. Thanks Mr. Rob.  Of course we had to write about him.

Junior's writing about Iggy.

Prim drew a picture of Puss in Boots accompanied by the title.

Thun Thun and Petch practise their writing skills.
