Penultimate week.

Difficult as it is to believe but true nonetheless, we only have one more week to go before half term break.  Time has certainly flown!  As the old saying goes, 'time flies when you're having fun'.  We have had fun this week as we engaged in many 'hands on' activities to facilitate our learning.

UOI

In UOI this week, we discussed the sense of taste.  The children learned that the tongue is an extremely important part of their body which is necessary to speak and eat.  They learned that they have 10000 taste buds on their tongue.  Following this discussion, the children drew a picture of their favourite food.

Thun Thun is totally engrossed in the video about the tongue.

Literacy/Maths

Maths and literacy were integrated in some of our activities this week.  The children read a book entitled 'The Sandwich Swap'.  The message in the story was that we all have similarities and differences, however differences should be celebrated rather than feared.  The children then worked with a partner to produce a venn diagram of similarities and differences.

Ida totally focused on her handwriting.

Maths

In maths the children continued to work on number recognition to twenty.  We also focused on Place Value using Base 10 blocks, e.g., that the number 23 is made up of 2 Tens and 3 ones.  This concept was further reinforced by comparing 2 numbers and stating which was the smaller or bigger number, e.g., 34 is smaller than 43.
