Happy Chinese New Year!

PSPE

The PSPE theme this week was teamwork.  After a lengthy discussion the children were put into teams and given the challenge of making something as a team.  They had free choice as to what to make and what to make it from.  Luffy's team decided to make a robot.  They really demonstrated teamwork as they each made a different body party for the robot.  Excellent job!

Literacy

In Literacy this week as well as looking at non-fiction books relating to our UOI, we have also been practising writing simple words, as well as basic punctuation.    In the pictures below Moses and Thames had to write sentences to match the picture, ensuring they used capital letters and full stops.

Euro writes words to match the pictures.

Maths

In maths we have been working on addition of one and two digit numbers.  We have also been matching cards to reinforce number recognition.  The children were also given 'maths challenge cards'.  These cards had a range of different challenges, from writing numbers in sequence to word problems.

Tone is very proud of his achievements.

The children worked with Miss Keb on the maths challenge cards.

UOI

On Thursday Miss Chen organised a Chinese New Year Assembly, where the children got to make dumplings.  This tied in beautifully with our UOI theme of Celebrations.  In our UOI lessons we have been practising for our own assembly.  The theme of our assembly is celebrating our achievements.  The assembly takes place on Thursday the 30th of January.  I do hope you can come along and join in our celebration.

Next Week

Next week, as already mentioned is our assembly.  This will also serve as the showcase for our Unit of Inquiry.  As the children will be leading activities, therefore they will be busy for most of the week preparing the materials.

In Literacy we will be doing Guided Reading, and in particular focusing on synonyms.

In maths we will focus on counting in 2's, 5's and 10's, and also writing the numerals 1 to 20 in numbers and words.
