Welcome Back!
Welcome Back!
It was so nice to see the Year 1 students return to school full of enthusiasm, excitement and ready to learn.
In maths we started learning about 3D shapes. After discussing the properties of 3D shapes, we set about finding some around the school grounds. Later in the week we started compiling a book about 3D shapes.

UOI
This week the children continued investigating Chinese New Year. They learned about certain features of Chinese New Year celebrations, for example why the colour red is important and why fireworks are a big part of the celebration.
In the pictures below the children are busy making dragons and painting 'Nian' monsters.
We had reason to have our own class celebration this week too, as Junior turned six on Thursday.
| Happy Birthday Junior! |
| The cake is definitely a hit with Jewoo and Ida. |
Next Week
In maths next week the children will continue to explore 3D shapes. Please encourage your child to find 3D shapes around the home, e.g. a tissue box. Please feel free to send these along to the classroom.
We will continue to explore Chinese New Year as part of our Unit of Inquiry. Please share any knowledge you have of this celebration with your child.
As part of Literacy and UOI, we will be looking at non-fiction books to gain information. We will look at how these books differ from fiction, with reference to particular pages, such as the index and contents pages. It would be extremely beneficial if you could share any non-fiction books from home with your child.
Homework
The only homework required of the Year 1 students at this point is reading. Please either read to your child or listen to your child read on a nightly basis.
