Let's Play!

Global Play Day

What a wonderful time was had by all on Thursday to celebrate Global Play Day!  There were traditional games from various countries such as Japan, Scotland and Pakistan to name but a few.  The children were able to experience games of yesteryear as well as playing with their own toys.

Literacy

Apart from developing comprehension and sequencing skills, the children also worked on expanding their vocabulary.  The exercise was based on the story 'Fancy Nancy and the Delectable Cupcakes'.  The children learned the meaning of words such as, 'delectable', 'aroma'  and 'adore'.  In the picture below the children are finding the right word to fit the sentence.

Miss Tuk helps the children with spelling basic words, which they then used in sentences.

Luna is very happy with the work she's done.
Miss Tuk works with the boys on a sequencing activity from 'Fancy Nancy'.

Maths

The children have been practising counting in 2's, 5's and 10's. Apart from this they have also been working on addition  and subtraction word problems.

UOI

The Unit of Inquiry was introduced by defining what was meant by living and non-living things.  The children had soon compiled a list of criteria to establish what was considered 'living'.  Following this, the children engaged in a sorting activity.  The pictures were categorised according to; 'Alive', 'Dead', 'Never Alive'. The children also 'tuned in' to the topic by listing things they knew already and things they would like to know.
