International Week.

International Week!

What a wonderful week we've had exploring South America.  We have learned lots about this unique continent, including all about the different countries that make up South America, the language, landscape and rainforest. We learned about the four different layers of the rainforest and the animals that live in each layer.  We were so interested in the rainforest that we decided to make our own.
Mr. Xavi was also a great source of knowledge to us. He taught us some greetings in both Portuguese and Spanish as well as telling us all  about the landscape.  Thanks Mr. Xavi!

Below is the link to our International Week Presentation.

South America - Year 1

Mr. Xavi shares his knowledge.

The children watch a video about South America.

Tone helps make a tree for our rainforest.

The children start work on the rainforest.

The children research their own South American  animal with the help of Miss Emmi.

Thame write about animals which live in the different  layers of the rainforest.

Literacy

The Year 1 students revisited the story of 'Jack and the Beanstalk'.  They wrote about the main character as well as the setting and sequence of events.  Their writing was accompanied by illustrations.  The students cut out parts of the text and pasted them in the correct order.

Mathematics

Im mathematics the Year 1 students investigated how to measure things using non standard units such as cubes.  They used cubes to measure their shoe size.  We also discussed in detail, the things we do measure, the tools to measure and the importance of measurement.

Next Week

In Literacy next week we will be reading 'Fancy Nancy and the Boy from Paris.  We will be learning some more 'fancy' words and also focusing on, question marks and exclamation marks.

In Mathematics we will continue exploring the topic of measurement and using nonstandard units, such as paperclips, counters and cubes to measure objects.

In UOI the children will investigate factors that can influence life cycles.  The emphasis will be on helping the children to understand that everything in nature is interrelated, and the importance of maintaining this balance.
