This week the children delved deeper into their investigation of the solar system. They learned that the sun is the centre of our solar system and many more interesting facts, which they included in a poster of the sun.
Spy did a superb job of making a sun which included lots of interesting facts. Great job Spy!
Love your drawing of the planets Spy!
Junior wrote down many interesting facts about the sun.
Wonderful work Junior. Well done!
Tone working hard on his sun poster.
Torch shows off his sun poster.
Maths
One of the topics explored in maths this week was 3D shapes. The children were able to name basic 3D shapes as well as their properties. They then had a go at drawing these as well as making them.
Jewoo busy categorising and drawing his 3D shapes.
Great work Spy!

The finished product. Great model Tone. Well done!
What a talent for making 3D shapes Torch!
English
In keeping with our UOI theme we read a book called 'Space Cat'. The children enjoyed the story and appeared to enjoy writing about it and drawing pictures from it.
Junior works hard on the picture of Space Cat.
Well worth all of that hard work Torch.
Moses did amazing work both drawing and writing after hearing the story 'Space Cat'.
Love the writing and the drawing Moses.
We also read the story 'Possum Magic'. The children were then asked to write a list of emotions that Hush, the main character might have felt. Luffy wrote down some really good emotions.
Wonderful work from Lunar. Just check out the pictures below.
Lunar did a magnificent job of answering questions on a story we read about the Sun and the Wind.
Professor Luffy has been hard at work on his science experiments. I really think you should consider having your own television show Luffy!
Torch and Junior were also busy with their science experiments. Great work boys!
Farewell Year 1! Hard to believe that the end of the school year has arrived, nevertheless it has. I have had such a wonderful time teaching Year 1, I'm only sorry the face to face time was cut short. However in the time we did have together, I got to know the students very well and I have wonderful memories of them. Each of the children has unique talents and personalities, so much so I could write a blog about each one but I shall limit myself to a sentence or two. Natasha Natasha always entered the classroom with a lovely big smile on her face. As such she set the tone for the day. She helped make the Year 1 classroom a happy place. Thank you Natasha. Luffy Luffy's enthusiasm and excitement for learning is contagious. Not only is Luffy a great student but also a great teacher. I learned so many things from you Luffy. Thank you. Torch It wasn't difficult to find a picture of Torch smiling, as he smiles most of the time....
Literacy "Books are a uniquely portable magic.” Stephen King It would seem that the children of Year 1 wholeheartedly agree with Mr. King. Linux engrossed in his book. Korwan enjoying a story read by Ms Bom Maths Measurement was the mathematical focus for the week. We focused on what measurement actually was, the type of things we measure and why measurement is important. We then went on to explore the use of informal units to measure, for example paperclips or unifix cubes. Finally we measured our handspans and used these to measure things in the classroom. Ms Bom helps Linux to measure the metre stick using his handspan. Khung uses his handspan to measure the height of the table. Hugo measures the number balance using his handspan. UOI What a wonderful term to work on the UOI unit, Celebrations. We have enjoyed so many celebrations this term including Chinese New Year, children's birthdays and of course this week ...
International Week / UOI For International Week, this week the Year 1 class have been learning about Australia. This country was chosen as it has some unique animals and therefore seemed to fit in nicely with our UOI, 'All living things go through a process of change'. As a class we looked at some of the marsupials unique to Australia such as the koala and the kangaroo. We also looked at the life cycle of the kangaroo. The children were fascinated at the size of the baby kangaroo when it is born. For the Grand Finale, the children recited a poem from the famous children's author, Mem Fox entitled 'I'm Australian Too!. After the assembly the children enjoyed some yummy Australian food supplied by the wonderful Year 1 parents. Then it was on to a variety of activities. Khung and Chris show off their surfing skills. Khung enjoying some yummy food. 2 cool 'Aussies'. Awa and Nobu Kun work together to colour the ...
